Save Money On Soap By Getting A Water Softener

It seems crazy, but it's true that you will save money on soap in the long term if you install a water softener in your home. There are cheap and expensive ways of doing this.

Water softeners are installed where the water line enters the home. They are designed to soften water by chemically attracting various elements to the resin media. Water softeners are necessary in hard-water areas to prevent soapy deposits in bathtubs and sinks and soap-scum that dulls laundry. Hard water is a common problem associated with well water so you can combat this issue by softening the water. You'll use less laundry soap, dishwasher soap and even shampoo because less soap is required since the water is softer. It's a difference you can feel on your hands and when you take a shower. The water feels smoother on your skin.

Water softeners are cation exchange devices. They are also able to remove excessive iron, which has no adverse health effects but can affect taste, color, or odor. They are a major source of sodium in recycled water. They are devices that add a substance to the water to eliminate or inactivate hard-water minerals, while water conditioners are devices that don't add anything to the water, and are a common and effective treatment device for homes with water hardness problems.

You can choose to buy one from the Culligan man (or other dealer) and subscribe to their monthly salt service, or you can buy your own unit from a store like Sears and get your own salt for a bag. We chose the second option because it was far cheaper and adding salt is super easy, I don't need to pay someone to open a bag and dump it out for me. They aren't hard to run. Most have digital readouts that show you when the levels are getting low. You can easily open the lid and see that the salt level is lower so you refill it. No big deal.
